In 2021 an exciting opportunity arose as we embarked on a journey with Witness Tree, one of the esteemed founding vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills. Nestled along Spring Valley Road, this 60-acre vineyard graces the East slope of the hills, exuding a sense of timelessness. Under the new ownership of Oregonians Matt Felton and Jay Mason, who recognized its exceptional potential, Witness Tree recently underwent a transformation. In the wake of phylloxera, the vineyard was replanted, the process meticulously overseen by celebrated viticulturist Ryan Hanniford. With thoughtful precision the replanting process ensured that the new vines would flourish, ultimately elevating Witness tree to become one of the region's finest sites.
The 2022 Witness Tree is sourced from older Pommard vines on the property, one of the few blocks that survived the replanting. As a testament to the elegance of mature vines, the wine exudes a sophisticated power. A kaleidoscope of flavors, Witness Tree enchants with a harmonious blend of licorice, porcini, and wild berries. Rich layers of bacon fat and blackstrap molasses lend an indulgent complexity while the subtle essence of fall leaves and silky tannins complete the captivating symphony.
